Sean McHugh is Senior Director and Head of Market Assurance at VARA, overseeing licensing, supervision and digital assurance across the virtual asset sector.

He brings more than 25 years of experience in financial regulation and compliance. Before joining VARA, Sean was Global Chief Compliance Officer at Citadel Advisors and previously spent more than 20 years at Goldman Sachs, including as Head of International Compliance and Head of Asia Pacific Compliance.

Earlier in his career, he held roles at Citi and Fidelity Investments and worked as a regulator at FINRA.

Sean holds an MBA in Finance from Rutgers Business School and a BA in Economics from the College of the Holy Cross.
