Biography

Jo Ann Barefoot is CEO and Co-founder of the Alliance for Innovative Regulation (AIR), a global nonprofit advancing a more fair, inclusive, and resilient financial system by modernizing regulation for the digital age. She hosts the Barefoot Innovation podcast and is Senior Fellow Emerita at Harvard Kennedy School’s Center for Business & Government. Her prior roles include Deputy Comptroller of the Currency, partner at KPMG, Co-Chairman of Treliant Risk Advisors, and staff member of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee. Jo Ann serves on the board of Oportun, advises FinRegLab and the Milken Institute, and co-founded the regtech firm Hummingbird. A prolific author and global speaker, she has published 200+ articles, including the RegTech Manifesto, and has received numerous honors for leadership in fintech and financial regulation.
