Please meet Anju Virmani. Anju is techie with a traditional Indian upbringing. She entered into a career in technology at a time when women in technology were a rarity. Anju serves as a key advisor to Emerge and helped provide strategy for Emerge’s products and initiatives of emerging technologies focussed on bringing about social change, inclusiveness and transparency in some of the most pressing social issues of our times. Our work in supply chain traceability and transparency has already impacted the financial lives of farmers across Latin America.
Anju serves as Chief Information officer at Cargojet Airways, Canada's only cargo airline for time sensitive air cargo services. She provides technology leadership to the organization and helps to effectively manage technology and business risks for products available to Canadian consumers. Anju currently sits on the Board of Directors of Ontario Health. Her professional career includes acting as a senior advisor to many technology startups. She is currently on the Board of CentrePort Canada, based in Winnipeg.
Previously, Ms. Virmani has served on the boards of the Toronto Transit Commission and the Toronto Central Local Health Integration Network. Her other appointments include the Advisory Council for National Security (ACNS), the Cross-Cultural Roundtable on National Security (CCRS) and the Schulich School of Business Advisory Committee.
With a passion for innovation and a proven track record of successful digital transformations, Anju has made and continues to make a meaningful contribution to diverse industries including transportation, healthcare, finance and insurance..
Through her family foundation, Anju started the largest scholarship for women in STEM at Ryerson University. The first 4 recipients of this scholarship will be announced in October and will receive mentorship and opportunities for internships in addition to the financial support. Anju supports socially impactful initiatives in education and health care through her family foundation.
She holds a B.sc and B.Ed from the University of Delhi, INDIA and an M.BA from the City University of New York. Anju has also received the Charter Director designation from McMaster University.
