Oban MacTavish is the co-founder and CEO of Spade, the leading provider of real-time merchant intelligence and transaction enrichment for the card ecosystem. Spade enhances payments data with merchant firmographic insights, improving authorization decisioning and rewards attribution.

Fascinated by finance since his teens, Oban founded the vertical software platform Hubly after graduating from the University of British Columbia, building distribution partnerships with multinational tax and insurance firms. During the pandemic, he shifted to fintech consulting, where he discovered the challenges of merchant transaction data—sparking the idea for Spade.

As CEO, Oban has led Spade’s strategy from inception, guiding the company through Y Combinator and multiple fundraising rounds, including a seed led by Andreessen Horowitz and a Series A led by Flourish Ventures. In 2025, he was named to Forbes 30 Under 30 for his contributions to fintech.
