Biography
Max Levchin is the founder and CEO of Affirm, a payment network empowering consumers and helping merchants drive growth. Born in Kyiv, Ukraine in 1975, he immigrated to the United States in 1991, settling in Chicago.
Levchin co-founded PayPal, serving as CTO until its 2002 acquisition by eBay. That year, he was named to Technology Review's TR100 and recognized as Innovator of the Year. He later founded Slide, a media-sharing service acquired by Google in 2010 for $182 million.
Through his innovation lab HVF (Hard, Valuable, Fun), Levchin created Affirm and co-founded Glow, a data-driven fertility company. He helped establish Yelp, serving as Chairman from 2005 to 2015, and sat on Yahoo's board from 2012 to 2015.
A computer science graduate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Levchin is a serial entrepreneur, computer scientist, philanthropist, and active investor in over 100 startups.
