Biography
Jo Ann Barefoot is CEO & Co-founder of the Alliance for Innovative Regulation (AIR), a global nonprofit modernizing financial regulation to build a fairer, more inclusive system. She hosts the Barefoot Innovation Podcast and is Senior Fellow Emerita at Harvard Kennedy School’s Center for Business & Government. Her past roles include Deputy Comptroller of the Currency, partner at KPMG, and staff member at the U.S. Senate Banking Committee.
Jo Ann serves on the board of Oportun and advises FinRegLab and the Milken Institute. She co-founded regtech firm Hummingbird and has held board roles at FINRA, the Financial Health Network, and others.
Honors include Fintech Woman of the Year, the Proxmire Award, Forbes 50 Over 50, and Fintech Hall of Fame. A prolific author and global speaker, she has published 200+ articles and the influential RegTech Manifesto. Fast Company has recognized AIR in its World Changing Ideas awards.
